There’s nothing better than a dog walk that also involves a good coffee, brunch, or cake. If you’re looking for the best walks with a coffee stop, we’ve got you covered. It’s safe to say, over the years we have tried almost every dog friendly coffee stop on our walks near Guildford, so here are our top 5 favourite cafes, tried and tested over many visits.

  1. Birdies Coffee House - Farnham Park

If a long and picturesque walk is a priority, then Farnham Park is unbeatable. With miles of walking space, there’s a bit of everything for everyone here. The fields nearest the main car park can be busy with sports games on Saturday and Sunday mornings but if you venture further, you will find yourself in quieter areas where your dog can run free.

It’s a great place to come for your dog to socialise and interact with other dogs, and to meet plenty of friendly dog owners too. You can find areas where it’s much quieter, but we love Farnham Park for the social side!

An additional bonus, if you have children, there are a couple of big play areas within the park, and tarmacked paths perfect for pushchairs.

The café itself is very welcoming, they allow dogs inside and outside, and the food is a good quality at a decent price. It is a busy café, especially inside, so if you have a less sociable dog, this might not be the one for you. They do have a good area of outdoor seating where you can sit further from other people and dogs if needed.

  1. Heather Farm Café - Horsell Common, Woking

This is another great location which provides miles of walking and a lovely café to start or end your walk with. Heather Farm has well-kept paths and plenty of space for dogs to run or paddle in various areas of water. It’s a busy place so another great one if you have a sociable dog and don’t mind meeting lots of other dog walkers.

Doggy snacks are available at Heather Farm Cafe too

If you have a nervous of reactive dog, it probably won’t be your go-to place, the paths mean it can be difficult to get space from other dogs and there are often lots of playful dogs who like to interact. If this is your dogs’ idea of a dream walk, then you really can’t beat it.

The café serves great food, and the outdoor seating area is fantastic. On sunny days, this is our favourite place to come for a coffee and breakfast. The indoor space is a little more crowded but if you enjoy a busy atmosphere then it’s ideal. Just like the walk at Heather Farm, the café is popular with dog owners, so if your dog struggles with lots of dogs around then it’s probably not for you.

An additional plus is they provide towels for muddy dogs, and there’s even a bathing station if your dog needs a wash!

  1. Chalk in the Park - Southwood, Farnborough

Chalk in the Park is a somewhat quieter café and walking location if you’re looking for somewhere a little less busy. Southwood is based on an old golf course with two sides of walking options, with the East side behind the café offering more open fields and some stretches through woodland. While on the West side, there are paths leading around a mix of grass and wooded areas.

You are likely to meet a few other dog walkers, but it’s often reasonably quiet. There is also great dog etiquette here, with most dog owners being very respectful of dogs on lead and keeping their dogs under close control. While the path layout can make it harder to avoid other dogs, if yours isn’t super sociable, it is possible to step off paths and get some space when needed.

The café itself is a large open space which allows more distance between tables so if you want to sit further from other people or dogs, it’s usually possible in here. There’s a good selection of food and drink, and a welcoming atmosphere.

  1. Esquires Coffee - Guildford

Pewley Downs is within walking distance from Esquires and the wild flowers and views are stunning

If you’re looking for a café option nearer the centre of Guildford, Esquires is our favourite in the town. There are lots of dog friendly options, but we love the atmosphere in here and the friendly vibe. It’s not the biggest café, the seating is cosy but it’s usually possible to find a quiet corner for your dog to settle.

There’s no outdoor seating so it’s better for dogs who are well-practiced in café environments. In the winter months, it’s an ideal place to sit in with your dog. The quality of food and drink is brilliant too. On a sunny day, pick up a takeaway from here and enjoy the seating in the castle grounds with your dog.

Dogs always receive a warm welcome from staff and other café visitors!

  1. The Farmhouse - Rokers, Worplesdon

Whether you’re walking on one of the nearby commons, or you’re popping into Rokers for dog supplies, Rokers Farmhouse café is a great option to stop for coffee and breakfast.

On warmer days, their outdoor seating provides a lovely view of fields and space for dogs to chill out or socialise. If your dog likes to settle away from other dogs, then the outdoor tables often provide space for this.

Nearby, Whitmoor Common is a fantastic place to walk before or after visiting the Farmhouse!

The indoor seating is closer together so it doesn’t provide as much space if your dog is uncomfortable close to others, but there are usually table options which will provide a more secluded space for your dog to settle.

While it is super dog friendly, plenty of people without dogs also enjoy it, making it more suited to café-pro dogs who will settle happily in a busy environment. The food and drink at Rokers Farmhouse are fantastic and it’s hard to beat their breakfast and brunch options!

We'd love to hear about your favourite cafes and walks near Guildford so go ahead and share them with us on our socials!
